(5055) Surface drainage
The diversion or orderly removal of excess water from the surface of land by means of improved natural channels or constructed drains, supplemented when necessary by shaping and grading of land surfaces to such channels or drains. Surface drainage can be classified into two categories, depending on the topography of the land: - Where ground slopes are flat (slopes less than 2 per cent), surface drainage is required to remove excess water that may cause waterlogging of the surface. - Where ground slopes are steeper (slopes greater than 2 per cent), surface drainage is required principally for erosion control.
